Design Report for CD Holder

Problem: I have a problem that I have all these CD’s and I have no place to keep them.
Brief:  In order in fix my problem I am going to design and build a unit that can hold my CD’s.  
Investigation:        -How many parts?                                                     3

                             -What are the dimensions of the joints?                    3
                             -What size screws should I use?                                 1 ×8 F.H.
                             -How thick should each piece be?                             3/4”
                             -What type of joint should I use?                               Lap joint
                             -What kind of finish should I use?                              Varnish

1. Sketch out your 3 parts on the piece of wood using your pencil and measuring tools.
2. Use the mitre saw to cut out your pieces.
3. Clamp down your 1st piece.
3. Use your saw to cut 2 slits half way through your now clamped down 1st piece on the lines that you drew for the slot where the 2nd piece is going to be screwed into.
4 .Use the chisel and rubber hammer to create the slot for your 2nd piece on your 1st piece.
5. File down your slot until it is level using your water level to check.
6. Unclamp your 1st piece.
7. Draw a half circle onto one of the sides of the board on the opposite end of the wood that has the slot in it.
8. Sand a curve in the end of the wood you just drew the angle on according to angle you just drew.
9. Use your measuring tools to draw the top angle onto your 2nd piece.
10. Use the band saw to cut off the excess wood that would be a waste of time to sand off.
11. Sand your top edge round using the belt and edge sanders.
12. Draw out your custom design onto one side of your 2nd piece.
13. Clamp down your 2nd piece.
14. Use your wood burner to emphasize the custom design you put onto your 2nd piece.
15. Sand to make a 10 degree angle on one of the long sides of the third piece.
16. Mark and sand the same 10 degree angle onto the end of the first piece that is not already curved but so that the bottom edge is smooth.
17. Mark the screw placements on your 1 and third pieces as according to the design plan.
18. Use the portable drill to drill your hole placements in your pieces of wood.
19. Screw your three pieces together as according to the design plan.
20. Apply your wood filler onto any space in your slot and or in between your 3rd piece and your 1st using the scraper.
21. Lightly damp your wood to bring up the grain.
22. Wait for the wood to dry a little bit and then sand your project until the surface is smooth.
23. Apply varnish to your project using the brush and wait for it to dry.

 1. The first flaw in my design is the fact that I did not burn deep enough into my wood so that the burns are not as outstanding as they were set out to be.
2. The second flaw in my design is that I did not take the time to sand down arks 100% evenly on both sides which caused my arches to be lopsided.
3. The third flaw in my design is that I did not apply more than one coat of varnish to my piece and therefore it is not completely sealed or darkened evenly.
4. The fourth and final flaw in my design is that I did not fill the knout my wood completely with the wood filler and because of that error, there is an indent of that surface.
